So I set up another blog to basically serve as a journal cut, so to break it in, I did a Myspace bulletin/survey. Read it behind the fake cut.

VA Shootings

News No Comments »

Shootings at Virginia Tech began as early as 7:15 this morning, then continued around 9:45, after the gunman was mistakenly thought to be in custody. So far, the latest number I’ve seen is 31 dead, including the gunman, and at least 20 other people injured–4 of which are in critical condition. It’s not clear at this point whether the shooter was taken down by police or if he turned the gun on himself. Reports so far say he never said anything, just opened fire. Now the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

I really hope the families and loved ones of those involved are able to find some closure. I’m really curious now to see if a reason will be found since the gunman is dead.

I won’t post links because you can find info on this pretty much anywhere right now.

I’m not even sure how Kristi stumbled upon this, but if you like mind boggling images, you should check this out, and when you’re done, check back with the whole blog as I’m bookmarking them now. Awesome content. Some resourceful blogging stuff and some just plain interesting stuff.

Weekend review

How ’bout we finally got some rain! The forecast has called for rain off and on for three weeks now and until Saturday there was never a drop. It got really windy yesterday and then finally starting sprinkling a little and looking all stormy and then it just stopped. I got annoyed. I like rain, and we needed some really bad. Then not quite an hour later there was a sudden downpour of awesomeness but it didn’t last very long. (Random note–’awesomeness’ is recognized as a word in Firefox. That makes me giddy. Okay not quite giddy but–okay wtf, it doesn’t recognize ‘okay’ I’m confused. My Firefox must be on crack.) But that was all the rain we got. It threatened more storming but never delivered and today was ridiculously windy and chilly. Good stuff. I actually like this weather, it’s just screwing with me because it’s cold for three days and then in the 90’s for three days. Come on now…

So we basically have three versions of our schedules. There’s the Master Schedule which is what’s posted in the break room (and what we’re told to go by), a schedule we can access on the computers, and then for cashiers there’s a clip board up front of the daily coverage and break schedule (at all my old jobs we called it the On-call sheet) A lot of times, the On-call sheet doesn’t match the other schedules. This is the case for me this week. As a part timer, I generally have two days a week off, and then about once a month I’ll have a week with three days off. So today, I was listed on the On-call for 10-6, but I was really 11-6. I knew saw all this yesterday, but I decided since they’ve all been annoying me as much as they possibly can at work, I didn’t need to give them the benefit of knowing what was going on beforehand. So at about 10:30 Peggy called me acting very confused when I told her I was at WalMart waiting on a prescription. She guessed I was just running late and would be there as soon as I was done; I played dumb, “Um…no…I’ll be in at 11 when I’m scheduled.” Then tomorrow I was apparently supposed to be working, but the master schedule (again, the one we’re told we’re supposed to go by) and the computer had me off, which, I thought was a little off since even when I have three days out it’s usually a Friday or a Sunday, never a Monday, but hey, whatever! So tomorrow afternoon, they’ll call, I’ll act dumb, they’ll ask if I can come in–”Nope! *click*” heh. I’ll get way too much enjoyment out of that. Maybe they’ll learn to pay more attention to scheduling. See, the On-call is kept up at Customer Service for the Head Cashiers to keep up with breaks and everything, so not everyone sees it. I just look at it to see in advance who I’ll be working with during the week. It just happened that someone asked me to see when they were working Monday, and I happened to see my name. Dude, I can’t be psychic.

Anyway, me, Ryan and Jonathan all played Super Smash Bros Melee Friday night–quite drunk. Wow, probably the most fun I’ve had in a while.

Funny things from this weekend– I went to pull the RTMs (damaged stuff) to the back and as I went through the door I had to stop to adjust some stuff that was falling off. Well, as I was kneeling down the door started closing and almost closed on my head. There were two other people in the Returns area with me and we all cracked up.

And you probably had to be there, but in the break room today, Ben (a zone manager) excitedly exclaimed there was a penny and when he picked it up I asked if it was heads up and he said very seriously, “No, but I like to live on the edge.” Yeah, idk, I just couldn’t stop laughing at that.

I’m gonna say technology hates me right now. The right ear piece went out on my headphones; either that or there’s something up with the headphone jack on my ipod. I almost hope it’s the ipod. How many more times do I have to send them that thing before they’ll let me have a new one? lol

I’m fairly certain my USB hub is burnt out too. Anyone have a spare they’d care to part with? I’ve bought so many of these things. I keep giving people mine and buying a new one. Gotta stop that.

Ryan’s theatre banquet is the 28th. Tickets are $50 each, and I need a dress, a formal one. Last year banquet was after all the proms were over so I was able to get something on clearance, but this year it’s all around the same time so a cheap formal dress is gonna be really hard to find and well, I’m just not looking forward to it. I’m gonna try to get something that’ll work for James’s wedding in September too, that way I’ll at least get my money’s worth (sort of). I guess I’m also not looking forward to it since I gained weight last year when I changed pills and still haven’t been able to drop it. I haven’t gained anymore since that spurt, but I can’t seem to lose it either. Gr. I’m not significantly overweight, but I’ve definitely got more on me than I want. I’ve never been totally happy with my body (duh, who is) but I was always satisfied and now I’m not so I wanna do something about that. I think next month I’ll go to the weight clinic in Douglas and see about getting something to help me along since this wasn’t a natural weight gain, it was medicinally-caused. If I could just drop what I gained last year, I’d be happy. Okay, it’s possible that I’m done rambling for today.

There’ve just been a lot of really cute and/or funny images I’ve seen lately, and some I’ve passed along, some only a few of you’ve seen, and some I’ve probably kept to myself, so here they all are at once!

Just putting this out there

So I just finished studying, and I had a full chapter on just gender discrimination. It was quite obvious that there was a lot of feminist input on this chapter. There was a sentence that really struck me and I just had to throw my opinion out there. “More often than not, women have supporting roles as wives, assistants, and secretaries.”

Now, I joke all the time with people that I’m going to college to get my Mrs. Degree. We have a laugh, but then when I tell them that I seriously want to be a housewife, you can see the gears turning. Also, my major is General Studies. Know how people graduate High School and lead perfectly happy lives without going to college to be a Dr, Lawyer, or some other overly specified career-person? Yeah, that’s what I want, only, I want my degree. I want my education. I want my college experience, so here I am, getting it. Expensive little desire? You bet, but this is what I wanted. Of all the things in the world I could be, I’d love to be a secretary. Honestly, that’s what I hope to be able to do. So here I am, majoring in General Studies with an emphasis in English and Adult Career Education (basically typing, office systems, etc.) striving to get my general education, but that doesn’t cut it for some people, and they can’t seem to get it.

Okay, a bit of a tangent there, but it all ties into my general point, I promise. As far as what I’m doing with my education, people think I’m short changing myself. Someone like me who’s had excellent schooling thus far and performed as well as I have should live up to some great potential, right? Well hey, that’s not what I want for myself, so shove off. Same goes for me falling into a stereotypical gender role and being a housewife and doing all the housework and errands and all that fun stuff. Just because it’s a stereotype doesn’t mean it has to be bad. If you don’t want to fall into that category then fine, I didn’t ask you to! That’s what I want for me though; that’s what would make me happy. Fact is, as much as I loathe cleaning and such right now, it’s really only because all those things have to be done in what could otherwise be my free time away from work and school. Give me a Sunday through Saturday off with no work, no school, no big commitments, and by Wednesday I’ll be on a cleaning and cooking spree. I’ll start baking in between loads of laundry and starting organization projects in the closets and even cleaning out computer files. It’s what I like to do!

So really, my dream future would find me living comfortably as a housewife doing temp secretary jobs whenever I wanted for extra money for vacations or gifts or whatever other extras came to mind. Now tell me, what’s so wrong with that? Will it hurt you for me to live my dream, just because I’m ‘allowing’ myself to fall into some stereotype?

And for those who’d care to ignore the truth in my words and focus on being negative and telling me how unlikely my dream is, I’ll have you know it’s quite attainable and I’m well on my way in the right direction, so again I say shove off, and have a nice day =)

Hypochondriac

Health, Outings No Comments »

So, for some reason, there seems to be this virus going around that, to me, seems has gone around about 18 times now within a really short amount of time, so now it’s got me all paranoid. Every time I get a rumbly tummy I worry that I’m getting that mess. Now is one of those time. I mean, I’m sure my tummy is just bitching, letting me know that I really shouldn’t have had that last slice of pizza earlier, but I just can’t help being a little concerned that tomorrow I’ll be calling work from my bathroom floor, telling them they’ll have to do without me. Haha…seriously, I’m glad I’m not a true hypochondriac. I get myself paranoid enough as is.

Today I had a Douglas-day. As in, I hung out with people from Douglas (home). I met up with an old friend for a bit earlier and it was just odd to meet up with someone I used to be so close to and see what different directions we’ve taken, and at the same time see all the little connections between the two of us. Then later tonight I went to Catie’s and Levi and Thomas came over too and we all had pizza (it’s the pizza making me feel icky, right?) and shared all our funny internet findings and Thomas played Paper Mario and we marveled at its neato-ness. Now I’m home…I came home to study for my Sociology quiz tomorrow. Can you guess how well that’s going?

Okay, okay, I’ll go study discrimination dammit. (In a minute)

Overbooked

I made plans with someone this afternoon, and plans with people tonight. It’ll all be fun, but I’m ridiculously tired today! Now I’m just wishing I could stay on the couch all day, but that’s just laziness! Maybe if this headache would go away, I’d feel better. I’ll seek out Excedrin to take care of that for me!

I actually had something to say when I started this, but now I’ve forgotten. Come clean my apartment so I can clear my mind….

Reunited and it feels so goooood

Television No Comments »

It’s been quite a while since I’ve watched anything on Mtv, but they’ve got something coming that’s caught my attention!

“Reunited: The Real World” will reunite the original cast of “The Real World: Las Vegas” in their former home — the “Real World” suite at the Palms Casino Resort — to see what has happened in the five years since the seven cast members lived together and to document what happens when they reunite.

That was probably the last season of Real World I paid any attention to (ie: very little…)but I’m definitely intrigued!
