Sands and lives and all that jazz

I blame Pete for what I’m watching right now. It’s only been ten minutes so I’m a little lost, but I’m sure I’ll be pretty much in the know by the end of the hour. I really just want to see one person. Just one. Of course, that person won’t appear anywhere in this episode, I’m sure.

After looking on youtube for clips, I’m even more confused. I guess that’s actually a good thing though, as it means I’ve managed to keep away long enough…

Pain, of course

I totally strained my back at work tonight. It feels absolutely wonderful. It keeps seizing up on me. I never really know what to do when it does this; it just eventually stops, I guess…

Lots of lifting tonight at work. Lots of customers trying to screw us out of money too. Ben totally went over the top getting $84 back from a customer who made a bogus return and then spent the money. He was totally out of place on everything he was doing, but it made me laugh so much. She was so mad! But for everything she had to say, he was right there with a retort and she just couldn’t keep up the lies.

I also have to say I just love when superiors wait until it’s time for you to leave to decide you need to do something else…knowing full well they could’ve asked you to do it much earlier, or left it as a ‘To Do’ for the morning crew. They always need something to do for those first few hours.

Ryan has to be on the road by 5am tomorrow morning. You shouldn’t envy me trying to get him up that early. I’m not sure how well that’s going to play out. He’ll be gone until probably sometime Sunday. Then if all goes as it should, he’ll be off again early Monday morning and he’ll be in Jacksonville most of the week for 4th of July gigs and recovery. It’s gonna be a weird week…sleeping alone for such a long period of time. I don’t know what I’ll do if he ever goes on tour.

I keep forgetting to check my schedule for this weekend and upcoming week. I have a feeling it won’t be a happy schedule. Whoopee for holidays in retail!

So, before last Friday, I was broke. I mean, there was money in my account, but it was already spoken for by charges that had not yet shown up and bills that were to be paid. I was so looking forward to my paycheck. It was to be a quite beautiful paycheck. With enough excess to treat myself to a good meal soon and even carry over into the next set of bills to be paid.

Then came Mediacom.

A few months ago, while paying my bill online, I accidentally signed up to have my bill automatically deducted from my account. I looked all over the website and even emailed support and could never find a way to remove that. I actually forgot about it, but no bill was ever automatically deducted from my account. Last week, however, I noticed something on my account online that listed the date my next payment would be automatically deducted from my account. So I called, everything was fine. They fixed it.

WRONG. Thursday morning I checked my bank account, and Mediacom had deducted the payment. Hooray for me that it happened to be just over what I already had in my account. Hooray for me again that everything I spent over the weekend waited to go through my account after the Mediacom payment so hi! Lots of overdraft fees. So many so, that I now have $24 to last me two weeks until I’m paid again. I have a very small amount of groceries and have not put gas in my car yet. I love being broke. Just kidding, by the way….

Edit: I completely forgot to mention that even after speaking to Mediacom and various ’superiors’ I was continuously met with the attitude of, “Yeah, probably our fault. Sucks for you. Can’t do anything about it.” Not even so much as an offer to credit my account so as to at least feel a little less like I just lost well over $100 for no apparent reason….

Craziness, eh? These are Mark Jenkins’ creations, and I’m loving them! I really want to do one or two of these myself! I wonder if I could get kitty to sit still long enough….

Thanks Geffen.

How to make a successful band:
1) Don’t promote their new album in any way. Don’t even release a music video beforehand. In fact, make sure no one, even the die hard fans really know for sure when it’s coming out…
2) Change their perfectly great image to one that’s completely cliche and doesn’t catch the eye at all.
3) When you DO release the cd, make sure the artwork is completely bizarre. It helps if the band doesn’t even truly know what the point/connection is.
4) Do risky things with which songs you actually put on the album. It doesn’t matter if you choose the best lineup ’cause certainly that will just motivate all the casual listeners to go out and buy copies everywhere so they can get all the different songs that should’ve been on the album in the first place.
5) Create a ‘fan club’ with higher pricing than even the artist they’re fucking OPENING FOR on tour and with that, get started on taking away all the things the die hard fans (who have kept the band above water for so long) stick around for.

Yeah, so Geffen made a ‘fan club’ that you can join for $40 for exclusive online chats, pre-sales, front row seats, exclusive meet and greets, and all sorts of other extras. If the pre-sales are supposed to be worth paying $40 a year, it’s probably safe to assume ticket prices are about to double in the Lifehouse world. I have a feeling meeting the guys by the bus to stand around and talk after shows is going to soon become non-existent with the introduction of the meet and greets.

It’s hard to think about because Lifehouse isn’t really marked by following through on ‘extras’ but at the same time, Geffen has changed a lot. How am I supposed to convince people they’re worth listening to when they pick up the album and see some ridiculous album artwork and pictures of the band looking like every other popular band right now….?

I don’t want Lifehouse and Geffen to be friends anymore. I know they still have some say in things, but this is not Lifehouse. This is what Geffen is pushing Lifehouse to be and I hate it.

What’s happenin’ Smorty?

No, Smorty isn’t my great, great uncle or my neighbor’s dog, Smorty is the new blog advertising company I’ve signed up with to try out! Honestly, I’m still fairly new to the hardcore blogging world, but who wouldn’t want to get paid for blogging?

I’d heard of Smorty before, but wasn’t quite ready to dive in myself until a friend of mine mentioned them and started up. I decided it was time to do a little investigating myself and so I headed over to see what kind of setup they have there, and I really like what they’ve got going on. I read though all the details before I signed up and before I got ready to take my first post, and everything is really straightforward. Your list of opportunities is really easy to navigate and leaves no guesswork.

The love is in the details though. Post approvals are done within 5 days; after 5 days, they’re automatically approved. From what I’m understanding, pay day is once a week. Once a post has been approved, you’re paid on the very next payment day–so basically instant gratification ;) They also pay through PayPal which is a definite plus. I’m all for using any company that doesn’t make me feel like they’re itching for my bank account information.

It’s so exciting to be a part of the paid blogging world and I’m so glad I’ve been able to find a good company to work with. You should probably get paid to blog too. I don’t really know what you’re waiting for? All my friends are doing it. Come jump off the bridge with us!

Ouch

Health, Gripe 1 Comment »

I have so many ridiculous health problems, sometime I don’t even know what to do with myself. The funny thing is, it’s all hereditary. I think, basically, every ailment in my family history that could be passed on–landed on me, no joke.

So many chronic this, and prone to that, and allergic to everything. I think my acid reflux is the only thing I didn’t get from someone else and that’s caused by all my stressing! Maybe if I didn’t have all these health problems I wouldn’t be so stressed, eh?!

If I had known when I was a tot that I was gonna end up with all this crap, I may well have just jumped off the monkey bars!! X-D I kid, I kid, but really though, who else can say that all the women on one side of their family have a giant, random hiccup on almost a daily basis?

I’m dealing with one of my most hated, even infuriating to the point you just want to scream, cry and rip out someone’s….something all at once–ailments. Thanks mom. Thanks grandma. Thanks great-grandma. And all you others before them.

Where do they come up with this junk, for real?! I’m pretty sure the only reason they’re in those costumes is to make them look absolutely ridiculous. I like this better than Xtreme Elimination Challenge. I wish we got this on Spike TV. I’d watch it, for real! Crazy thing is, I know if this were an American game show, then all those positions would have to be doable…anyone know if it works that way in Japan? I don’t think there’s any way some of these can really be done though…(I meant to post this like 2 weeks ago, so if you’ve seen it by now, my bad…)

A bunch of randomness

Some know that Ace from Real World and Challenge fame on MTV opened a bar here in town. Apparently that’s his thing now–owning bars in college towns so he can still experience the college life without the classes and make money rather than take out loans. (His words, not mine) Anyhow, searching for something to watch I found that he made it past the men’s final inferno on the latest challenge. I’m surprised. We all kind of assumed he wouldn’t be on this season long based on his past show history and the fact that he’s here in town.

How did I not hear that Vince McMahon (Professional Wrestling icon) is *ahem* “dead”?? Really though, faking your own death is ridiculous–especially in the world of wrestling, considering that everyone knows everything is a storyline. Maybe I’m missing the big articles or the latest, but the best theory I’ve seen so far is him staging it so he could retire. Others take it further by assuming he has cancer–citing such proof as his recent weight loss and decline in activity, and ‘losing’ a match to shave his head. Weirdness altogether.

Let’s see what else….this past weekend was a pretty decent trip. We ended up taking my car because Catie’s timing belt is wonky. The aquarium was nice, of course. I really enjoyed hitting all the places where we could just chill and watch the little lives behind the glass. We ate at Doc Chey’s and I had the best lo mien probably ever. It was absolutely yum. Gracias Catie for treating me :) The concert was madness. We got there at 6:30 with a good enough spot in line for front row. Well, they let us in after 8 and goofed because they were obviously still rehearsing/sound checking so they let us inside the building, but not inside the venue. It got even more ridiculous when, even though they saw the problem, they decided to continue letting people in so everyone crowded around the three venue doors and rushed in like a pack of wild dogs. That pretty much pissed me off since standing in line was not a happy time and still didn’t get me front row. We ended up about 4th row though so it wasn’t too bad. It was a miserable wait starting with an only decent opening act whom I got tired of quickly. Then when we thought Mika was coming out, 5 break-dancers came out instead and did something like 5-6 goes each. So unhappy. After that they did more setup and I was getting really miserable and cranky. The crazy ladies in the crowd next to us with finger puppets were mildly entertaining and there was a guy up in the stands doing the absolutely craziest dancing I’ve ever seen–that was humorous. Finally Mika came on and all was well =) I’ll rave about the show later.

Sunday night we had a Parkview meal that was delish, followed by complete and utter drunkenness. Let me say that Poweraid, Golden Grain and Strawberry Pucker mix very well together. There was drunken Halo, drunken Pictionary, and then we went skinny dipping; well, we started off clothed and ended up skinny dipping by way of either just randomly wanting to or truth or dare. I accomplished something nice for a friend as well, which made me happy.

It’s been work all the rest of the week. Yesterday was a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day. Which is pretty much why I’m not at work right now. I’ll probably gripe about that all later though.
