I need more allowance

Tonight I really finalized everything for selling my Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. There had been some complicated things I needed to do to get everything in order and I finally broke down and did it. I have no idea what motivated me, but it’s done! Now I’ve just got to wait until I’ve got a little extra cash to buy a few proper card boxes for shipping and listing fees and I’ll be on my way! Between now and then I’m gonna do a little more research on what the cards are really selling for right now so I can decide on a price. I’ve decided to sell the whole lot in one go. It’s looking like I’ll have better luck that way. I may change my mind before then though, who knows!

Of course now I’m thinking of what I’ll buy with the money I make off the cards. It should be a pretty nice payoff if everything goes well! Of course, I don’t expect to have any problems finding a new toy with Buy.com’s Weekly Deals beckoning to me.

Like this week, they’re tempting me with the Calgary 500GB External Hard Drive. I think it’s pretty well-known by now that I’m really weary of my current external. I’ve never really used it as a ‘backup.’ All of my music and a large portion of pictures and other files live solely on my fidgety external. I’ve even been told by the manufacturer that they recommend I replace it before everything goes *poof*–Scary thought! calgary.jpgI’ve also got a smaller external that I used to backup some of my more important stuff and it’s also the sole home for some media files. (See, my love of storage spills into my love for technology too….it’s sickening ;) ) This Calgary external has three times the storage space my current has, so I could stop worrying about putting everything on DVDs to free up room! Do you have any idea what a painstaking process that can be? And mind numbing…

My favorite part–according to the customer reviews Buy.com provides, it’s quiet! That’s the big headache with my current external; it gives off some really rough white noise that just kills me.

Bottom line price is $84.99 plus free shipping! Eek! I can afford that!

Of course, I could always spring for a little extra and get the Western Digital they have up this week. It’s, hold on, you probably wanna sit down for this one–1TB–as in Terabyte. You okay? Yeah that’s pretty much amazing! And at $199 with free shipping, it’s still cheaper than what I paid for my current. That one might be a little dangerous though. All the drool would just be asking for trouble…

I gotta stop, man. They’ve got a 7-Port USB 2.0 Hub, and oh! They’ve got another Garmin deal this week! I can’t wait to get my GPS this summer! I wonder which one they’ll have on sale when I finally reach my goal and get ready to buy? My geek cup runneth over!

This Carrot isn’t good for your eyesight

This was Carrot Top back in the day. Scrawny white-guy comedian with crazy hair.

carrot-top.jpg

This is Carrot Top now. I don’t have much to say about that. Obviously he had to have gotten obsessed with overcoming that skinny white guy syndrome to build muscle like that! He’s always been known for being “different,” and with a look like this now *ahem*(talk about a face only a mother could love) that hasn’t changed.

Does anyone look at this and get excited? ‘Cause I kinda wanna go rinse my eyes out with vinegar now…

I’m worried about her…

Kristi has taken to regularly watching…*gasp* American Idol. Not only that, she’s even blogged about it!

I understand that she likes one of the contestants; he’s good, but I think she’d be better off just watching his performances on YouTube.

I’ve tried talking to her, but she’s just not coming to her senses. Is there a drug treatment center for American Idol addicts, because I think addiction is where she’s headed and I don’t know what to do to save her! The television gods are going to smite a good show as punishment for her watching this mess!

I think maybe The Office should add another night to its schedule to offset her desire to watch this…

Just a thought

I talked to my mom earlier and she was telling me about a clinic in town that focuses on weight loss. Just a flat $50 appointment to discuss your weight and what you can do to get it down. If you’re looking for a diet pill to try, they talk you through all of that and decide on the best one for you, whether it be hoodia weight loss pills, or an almost unknown name–they’re not influenced by vendors giving them incentives for prescribing a specific brand.

I’m not jumping up to go, but it’s definitely a thought if my current attempts go without results.

Procrastination–that’s my job!

I’m working on a little self-improvement this summer. I’m guilty of something I’m pretty positive we’re all guilty of–getting annoyed with someone for procrastinating when it comes to something trivial. I mean, we all procrastinate; there’s no reason to get annoyed with someone when they’re putting off doing something pretty trivial when you know you wouldn’t do it either if you didn’t just feel like immediately doing it!

For instance, Ryan filed for an extension on his taxes because of course he waited until the last minute and ended up having to work out of town the entire week before the due date. He very easily could’ve gotten them done in about 20 minutes on the night they were due, but instead, I have a feeling it’ll be October before he does them. I’m trying to give gentle reminders so that he’ll get his rebate without any problems, but other than that, I’m trying really hard to remember that it’s not affecting me, so I have nothing to say about it. Same with his car insurance; it has to be changed over out of his mom’s name by the 15th of this month. She’s been sending him paperwork for it since January. Hopefully he’s going later today to get it all taken care of.

I’m not expecting miracles. No one’s perfect and I don’t think anyone can always avoid getting mad over something trivial, but that’s just my goal for this summer–to actively try to think before I get annoyed and just try to be more understanding.

We’ll see…

For those who don’t know, my oldest brother, along with his wife and two babies, live with my grandmother. What started as a convenience for my brother back when he was still a misguided bum, turned into a situation more or less for my grandmother. Now that the babies are quickly growing, they’re really buckling down and looking for a place of their own. It’s causing a decent amount of stir within the family too.

Everyone’s really gonna have to pitch in to keep everything running smoothly with Granny. She’s not overall disabled or anything like that, but she needs a little help with a lot of day-to-day tasks. Not to mention that she thrives on having someone around her all the time.

There’s always been talk of purchasing a trailer out near where my aunt lives, or even putting one out on their property since they’ve got a fairly large acreage, but when it comes down to it, I’m not sure even that’d be for the best. Of course all the obvious precautions would be taken–working alarms, medical jewelry, easy access to emergency numbers, extra rails and such in the bathrooms, etc, but like I said, she really thrives on being around people. It gives her an excuse to get up and keep going, ya know?

And of course no one is thrilled about the idea of actually selling the house. It’s an old house, and it needs a lot of work so if it were sold, it’d be leveled for certain, and I can’t even imagine how many generations of memories there are in that house.

I secretly hope they don’t find a house for a while, ya know? It gives Granny a purpose to have the babies to take care of.

To ink, or not to ink

Around the time I was working out details for my Pete tattoo, I realized I really wanted one for Papa as well. I know I want a bumblebee, but where I really want it is my wrist. I love the idea now, but I can’t sort out whether or not I think I’ll still be cool with having one there when I’m much older. That’s my only real concern. I’m not worried about it affecting jobs or anything like that since I’d make sure I had it placed just right and invest in a variety of watches. I’d probably need two–a good laid back watch for day-to-day tshirts and stuff, and maybe a really nice one, like a Patek world time piece for when I need to dress up.

I know I want the tattoo, but none of the other locations I’ve thought of really feel ‘right’ ya know? I’m thinking about heading up to the shop to discuss it, pick a ‘final’ design and maybe that’ll help me make a decision. I’ve also considered a temporary tat just to try it out.

Why does ink have to be so addicting? I mean really.

Looking better

You all know by now what a nut I am for organization, well, I’ve been itching again lately. My entertainment center downstairs is set up with the big open square for the tv to sit close to the floor. Aside from neither of our televisions being small enough to sit there anymore, the tv in the living room needs to sit high for everyone to see. So that leaves me with a big hole of nothingness. Currently, the cable box, wiimote charger stand and the power strips sit there. I decided a little while back that I wanted to build a little shelf there, just something so that the actual electronics could sit on top of it and the cords would be down under–not as obvious. I was all set to measure and do that when I finally had a chance to look at all the possible solutions we sell when I decided I really wanted a drawer there. So I looked over everything and finally settled on one of the wider stackable drawers.

Visually, it wasn’t exactly what I wanted, but it was $11 and it serves its purpose. It looks a lot better now and that hole doesn’t look so empty!

I also got a good little project drill + 2 batteries + charger + bits & bag for $12.50. We had a couple of different Firestorm power tools on clearance that we were getting rid of. There were some cheaper ones, but they didn’t come with batteries or chargers since they were more powerful–but I don’t need powerful; I just need something handy for little projects like shelving and hanging pictures and such.

I feel domestically accomplished!

The Office: Dream-style

Dreams, Television 1 Comment »

So this is mostly for Kristi since she’s not online and I’m not telling this story in a text! I had an Office dream last night and it was so much fun!

There had been like a series of fans winning a chance to spend a day on the set and I was the last one to win. It was crazy because they had been shooting a big story in my grandmother’s house? Of course it was the dream version of her house–with an exaggerated back yard that stretches for miles and a third story, complete with freaky secret passage that leads through the whole house and then into some subterranean maze–I love the dream version of my grandmother’s house; it’s fun!

Anyway, I got there and true to dream form, everyone kept phasing in and out of being the character or being the actor. Either way was amazing fun. I got there and they decked me out with swag galore–t-shirts, bobble heads of the entire cast, kitchen stuff, I can’t even remember it all.

I distinctly remember playing some nutso board game based on Dwight–I played with Dwight and Michael. It was something Rainn had made so it was pretty basic, but it was full of crazy Dwight scenarios and I got to keep it. And of course everyone got excited when they found out it was my grandmother’s house. I showed them the secret passage and then I remember something about us all settling on where everyone would sleep for the night? I dunno–I guess we were getting ready for some sort of slumber party! I just know I woke up and thought, “Omg, I gotta remember to tell Kristi.” It was a hilarious dream. If I’m lucky, maybe there will be a continuation!

Always so close

I’m as close as I’ve ever been to having this apartment clean. With everyone gone, I’ve been able to really get down and clean things my way–throw out useless junk and really put things where they go. I’ve vacuumed most every little corner…now I just need to dust. Totally did that backwards, right? Ha. Well the dirty floor was just getting on my nerves. I stay barefoot unless I really need shoes–that’s just me, but since none of the apartment is carpeted, I can feel every little bit of dirt on the floor, and boy, it’s dirty =(

All of downstairs is tile and there’ve been stains since well before I moved in. They can be cleaned, it’d just take a bit of dedicated scrubbing and they’re really just all over the place. Any idea how hard it is to get motivated to clean up a complicated mess you had nothing to do with? With my free time this summer, I’ve no doubt I’ll finally break down and get some really kickass floor mops to take care of the job. I don’t think I can live with it much longer. Now that I’ve gotten so close to getting everything clean, I can’t stand that it still looks so dirty just because of these stains! I’m gonna go mommy dearest on the floor soon…Think beating the stains with wire hangers would work?
