Redbox

I’m trying out Redbox tonight. You may have seen them around your town; we have a Redbox kiosk in both of our Wal Marts.

It’s a little kiosk where you can rent a dvd for $1 for 24 hours. I think right now it’s sort of a small business franchise, I could be wrong, but they’re fairly new here so I dunno.

I’ve been sort of thinking on it. I signed up for a free one, but the code wasn’t cooperating so I just paid the dollar. I was probably doing something wrong. I’ll figure it out next time.

I rented Mad Money. They didn’t have an incredibly huge selection, but I see now that I can check out what they have online and you can reserve a movie too, so we’ll see.

I don’t like though that you only have until 9pm the next night before you get charged another $1. 9 is a common closing time so if you’re planning to drop it off after work, you’re outta luck. I think midnight to midnight would make more sense. It’s still a nifty idea though! It’s cheaper than OnDemand. Why not pick up a movie for a dollar while you’re grocery shopping?

Good job

I actually went to work voluntarily tonight. I don’t have many hours this week, so I found out from Mel which nights she’d be working and told her I’d come in for a few hours tonight. I was supposed to be off Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. She’s closing Friday as well, but I’m not giving up a Friday off!

Granted, I only went in for three hours, but that’s enough gas for two weeks (regular weeks), that’s one of my concert tickets for next month, one of my bills, a Proactiv acne cream set, one of my prescriptions, etc–you get the point.

Three hours was the most I could convince myself to do, ya know? It worked out pretty well though. I came in and just did some random tasks and then worked on some tests and stuff. I wish I could have nights like this more often. Wishful thinking though.

Internet on. Internet off.

I called this weekend to set up a service call for our cable. For at least 5 years, the signal upstairs has been crap. Every two weeks we have trouble with OnDemand at the very least. At its worst, a lot of channels will come through as if playing from a scratchy dvd. We’ve let it slide mostly because we really only watch tv at night before bed and who wants to be on hold with an automated system when you’re trying to settle down at night?

When I moved my computer upstairs, it started becoming much more noticeable. It was okay for about a week, but since then it has deteriorated to the point that I had to disconnect the cable to the tv and connect the internet directly (no splitter=no television) and now even when it’s directly connected, the signal is spotty.

I was told they were showing the earliest opening would be Thursday, but they took my number in case someone could get out here sooner. It’s now 4pm on Thursday and there’s been no sign of anyone coming by. I even skipped classes today so I wouldn’t miss them coming, and now that’s been for nothing. I’m ready to take a set of golf clubs to our cable box.

Before I was connecting straight to the source, a tech was trying to tell me it was probably the splitter and that we might have to pay to have a dedicated line just for internet. Bull-to-the-shit. Knowing that this has been a problem here in this apartment for almost 5 years, it’s obviously something on their end. I’m not paying for them to fix their own problem, I DO have the option of finding another service and I WILL. I’m done playing with them.

Luckily, the tech I talked to this weekend said he saw himself that we weren’t getting a good signal here and that maybe it was a bad splitter. (Not inside, but one on their equipment) and he told me to call back after everything was taken care of and they’d make sure we were discounted. That’s one thing I’ve always liked about them, they’re definitely open to offering some sort of compensation when there are problems.

Anyway, we’ll see if I’m even able to publish this post…

Lesson

A mile is a very long way to walk to get somewhere you didn’t want to go in the first place.

It’s longer when you’re sweating at 9 in the frickin’ a.m.

And even longer still when you really, really have to pee.

This isn’t a new lesson, rather, one I seem to re-learn every Tuesday and Thursday. I shouldn’t need fitness equipment with all this walking, but yeah, I’m not exactly melting away.

I want like, a Vespa or something. Really. I’m considering a bike, but I dunno, I’m just not a fan of biking. We’ll see.

I can try!

Right, so I came home from class, fixed lunch and sat down to watch some That 70’s Show on my computer only to realize I had some funny spots in my vision. Well, the spot got bigger and bigger until I realized it’s not something with my vision, it’s absolutely a migraine aura. You’ll have to google it yourself ’cause I can only see the left side of anything really right now so I can’t be sure I’m linking you to a good, informative site.Basically they’re different symptoms people get before they even have a headache. I get sparkly blobs in my vision and generally I start getting numbness in my face and fingers. Right now I’m only losing vision.I’m supposed to work tonight so I’m trying really, really hard to head it off. I don’t know if that’s possible though….We’ll see. It’s weird because right now I feel fine other than half my site is obscured by a pretty,  sparkling sparkles….

The waiting game.

Uncharacteristically, my first teacher this morning let us out early. I think he was really thrown off when he got to class and realized he was thinking we were a week ahead of where we actually are. We’re not behind or anything, he was just thinking of what we’re supposed to be doing next Thursday, not today.

As great as that would normally be, today it’s a little lame. Now I’ve got all this time to kill before my next class….a class I’ve already done all the work for. I’m ahead in that one, so today I really just need to make an appearance and stick around until she finishes ‘teaching’ us how to do some of the documents I already did.

I’m ahead in two of my classes right now, which feels really good. In the other two, I’m really just right on target. I should probably jump into my reading a little more in Lit though. We’ve got a quiz Friday and there’s really no telling how that’ll go.

Dr. Davey keeps it as interesting as I think he possibly can, but we’re still sort of introducing and defining what “American” literature is so we’re in these older texts that aren’t all so easy to read or all so terribly interesting. Judging by the syllabus we should be on to more interesting things in about another week. Then we’ll be hitting things like Poe, and The Great Gatsby. I can hang with that a little easier.

They’re okay

As most should know by now, Gustav slowed down, so it didn’t hit catastrophically. Ryan’s mom and sister stayed at the home of the other people who were set to come here. They don’t have power, and the wind and rain has been rough, but they’re okay. There’s been no major damage that they know of.
