Living with boys…

I just got asked if I got hit or something…because I have a blackhead extractor on my nose.

I think their brains automatically shut off when they see a commercial for anything feminine. I mean, I’m not confused about what a jock strap is, or nose hair trimmers or anything like that, so how do they manage to be so oblivious to seemingly anything from the ‘girl’ world?

If they aren’t paying attention, I wonder if they just aren’t seeing it at all and just sort of drift to their own thoughts, or if they’re putting together their own ideas of what the images they’re seeing are about.

When they see a commercial for an IUD do they think it’s a fishing lure?? I think I might just print a picture and ask some of the guys at work what they think it is. I’m dying laughing just thinking about it.

Best eyeliner?

I’m on a quest for new eyeliner right now and wow, it’s a lot more frustrating than I was expecting. Good eyeliner isn’t cheap, and it’s just that much worse when you use that little $5-$10 stick once and decide you hate it.

I need something ’cause I’ve given myself under eye wrinkles at the ripe age of 24 from all the rubbing I do to get rid of eyeliner smudges. At 24 I’m hitting up www.undereyecream.net to do damage control.

So what do you use? I’m not really a fan of liquid eyeliner & I just really want something that isn’t gonna smudge to hell and back all day.

I’m using Loreal Infallible Never Fail eyeliner right now and it’s at least better than all the others I’ve tried so far, but I still think I can find something better.

I have pretty eyes, I don’t want them looking old and tired so soon.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure

It’s love! I don’t like wearing typical nail polish colors– pinks and reds just aren’t me– so when I saw the display of the new Sally Hansen line of course I stopped to go through them. All your typical shades are there, but they had some really fantastic shades that you just don’t see. Definitely a more adult take on wilder colors. You can check out the whole line here, and the color on the website is pretty true to how it comes out on your nails. Ignore the ’shine’ in the middle, but in my experience so far, the color to the right in the image is what I get with a single coat and the color to the left is what I’ve gotten with two coats.

This is base coat, strengthener, growth treatment, color, & top coat all in one bottle. I was skeptical at a price tag of $6.50, but I gave in and bought Commander in Chic which is a fantastic brown/gray color.

I’ve gotten quite a few compliments on both colors I’ve tried.

Unlike some higher priced polishes, you’re still getting the typical .5 oz bottle. I was impressed right off with the brush shape. It’s flat, with a great curve to it and a more exaggerated slant to one side. This made my polishing session much less messy.

Of course the color came out great with a less-than-typical dry time, which is always a plus.

The true test, though, was working the next day. Because of how much I use my hands at work, even with an amazing top coat the polish at the tips of my nails is always killed after a shift. After two shifts, it’s demolished enough that my nails already look like they need to be repainted. It’s a pain. Two coats of the Sally Hansen– over a week later I’m barely seeing the slightest amount of wear on the tips and no chipping!

I can say this with confidence as I’ve now painted my nails with this stuff 3 times and gotten the same results each time. Currently I have Commander in Chic and Gray by Gray but I’m absolutely going back for more colors. $6.50 may be more than what I usually spend on a bottle of polish, but it’s more than worth it considering I’m not wasting more polish with touch-ups two days later and I’m not wasting my time completely re-doing my nails every few days.

I definitely say give this one a shot.

I purchased Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure on my own and received no
compensation for this review.

Whiter nails?

I like to wear my nails bare, I keep them shaped and they’re very healthy but they’re not as bright as I’d like them to be so I started looking around for remedies.

I don’t want to use a whitening pencil at all because that’s just coloring the nail. I want mine to be genuinely whiter.

First up I’m trying baking soda and peroxide.

You mix 1tbsp peroxide with 2 1/2-3 tbsp baking soda and coat your nails and under them with the paste. Let sit 3-5 minutes, rinse and do the other hand.

I couldn’t get this under my nails in a way that satisfied me so I’m not sure about it yet. They’re certainly cleaner than usual, but I’ll try it a few times before I decide if it’s actually whitening them.

I read a lot about using whitening toothpaste to clean them and also different denture cleaners, so I guess those are what I’ll try next if I don’t like this.

Anyone else have some other methods of getting whiter nails?

Strawberry Carmex

carmex.jpg Best. Stuff. Ever.

Carmex has done it again! About two months ago, while browsing for a new lip balm, what do I spy but another Carmex flavor–this time–Strawberry! You may remember me talking about Cherry, their first attempt at flavoring Carmex. Now they’ve really got it down! Where Cherry still had a Carmex after-taste and a medicinal sting to it, Strawberry welcomes no shortcomings! It’s just amazing! I’m in love with the stuff. I haven’t left the house yet without having it handily in my pocket!

Biotene toothpaste

I think I’ve made it abundantly clear that, though in the past I’ve not cared much for ice cream, as of late, I’m all over it! In fact, Josh and I swung by Marble Slab and I finally perfected my Rocky Road! Chocolate ice cream, marshmallows, chocolate sprinkles, and crumbled graham crackers! Oh! In a waffle bowl, of course ;) It was perfection.

My ice cream enjoyment is always rather bittersweet though. I have some overly sensitive choppers that just can’t be stopped! I’ve tried sensitive toothpaste before, but I’ve never had a whole lot of success.

biotene-004.jpg

Today in the mail, I received a sample of Biotene to try out. Check out some of the specs:

  • Maximum sensitivity relief & dry mouth protection.
  • Helps prevent canker sores & irritation with a gentle low foaming formula.
  • Includes xylitol to help prevent cavities.
  • Natural enzymes defend against bacteria, plaque, and gingivitis.
  • Great taste for fresh, clean breath!

I’ve already tried it out and so far, I’m liking it. It actually does have a pretty great taste. It tastes like the little square gum you get from the little quarter machines. I’m really pleased with how clean my teeth feel as well, so I’ll definitely be testing this one out as far as I can.

I haven’t had an opportunity to see if it really helps my sensitivity–we’re out of ice so I can’t even test it with ice water. I’d imagine it’ll take more than one use to really see the effects anyway.

I’d been given a bit of heads up that I might be checking this out, and I was excited. I’m even more excited to read the claim that it helps prevent canker sores. I’m not sure why, but I seem very prone to those ever since my days in braces!

I’m curious to read up a little more on this Xylitol–which they say helps prevent cavities. Without dental insurance right now, I could use all the help I can get in that department.

I’ll update when I feel I’ve given it a thorough enough try to determine whether or not it helps in the sensitivity department, but for now I’m giving it a preemptive A.

Carmex

I’m addicted to lip balm–lip balm in all shapes, flavors, scents and forms.

Two things motivate my addiction. For one, my papa got me started. He used to give me his ChapStick all the time. I became addicted to cherry and strawberry ChapStick.

Secondly, my sinuses are nuts. On my clearest day, I still don’t breathe very clearly through my nose, so I’m literally a dirty mouth-breather (haha!) It makes for pretty much constant dry lips. They’re not gross or anything, I promise, they just don’t retain the moisture that most people’s do.

I have a few favorites, but about 6 years ago, I discovered the joys of Carmex.

carmex_196×151.jpg

Carmex is my go-to stuff. When I really need something, it’s there for me, providing the impenetrable protection that my lips deserve.

Honestly, there are three different containers of Carmex on my desk at this very moment. There’s a little tin, a squeezy tube of classic Carmex, and one of the new cherry flavor. I flipped when I saw the cherry flavor come out! I had actually just been wondering why there wasn’t a flavored Carmex and viola!

I wouldn’t recommend the cherry flavor if you actually have any splits or anything like that at the time. The flavoring can make it sting a bit if you do.

Matt actually posted up that you can sign up to get a free sample of Carmex, so of course I jumped on that! It took less than a minute to sign up and I haven’t been spammed yet, so you might wanna give it a try too, with the dry wintery weather heading slowly in!

Intuition

I love this razor! I’ve had my Intuition for a long time and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I absolutely love not having to deal with shaving cream.

I thought I’d be annoyed by having to replace the razors, but they really last a lot longer than you’d expect, and it’s absolutely worth it for the convenience they provide! I shave so much more often with this than I ever did before. I’m sure Ryan appreciates it, considering I always end up squishing my legs under his when we go to sleep. I get cold!!

They’ve started branching out lately, with different scents and razors for sensitive skin too. I really need to go pick up some replacements before I leave town next week.

In my mind, it’d be hard to top this razor. I’ll most likely be using it until I get laser hair removal…however many millions of years it takes until I can afford that…
