Purge

Music No Comments »

Today was what I’ll call The Great iTunes Purge of 2008. I haven’t messed much with iTunes since I reformatted. I knew I had some work to do before I’d feel comfortable syncing my iPod again, not losing some of the playlists that took a little more effort. I noticed though, after Kristi accidentally unchecked all of her songs, that mine were ALL checked…something I hadn’t thought of at all when I imported everything all over again. So I set about deleting and unchecking all the proper files all over again, starting with the duplicates, of which there were waaaay too many. Apparently iTunes needed two copies of most of my Lifehouse songs…not acceptable.

So not including the songs I’ve unchecked (meaning I still want to keep them, but don’t need them on my iPod) I deleted over 700 songs. About 200 were duplicates so hey, I say bravo to myself! It’s like my iTunes has taken a few doses of anoretix and totally dropped a few pounds! I always try to go through and get rid of stuff I don’t/won’t ever listen to but I do it half-assed or quit halfway through so this was a pretty big accomplishment for me tonight. There’s very little I kept that I would question whether or not I’ll listen to it, but it’s all from artists I have one or two songs I really love and then other stuff I just haven’t given a fair chance to yet.

I’m still at about 4000 songs, so I’m not hurting ;) Hopefully this’ll give my next button some rest while shuffling!

Lifeho Convention ‘08

Mhmm…it’s concert time! I’ll be seeing Lifehouse in Atlanta on April 12th and then in Jacksonville on April 14th. Oh what a weekend it will be!

We’re having a little Lifeho union/reunion in Atlanta and I can’t wait!! (Read: If you haven’t been around long enough to know what a Lifeho is, well, it’s not derogatory, it’s just a nickname, kthnx.)

I’ll be reuniting with Kristi, Katie and Trinity, and finally meeting Dara and Cayte. [Yes, that’s right Dara, we’ll get this all sorted out and you will be present and accounted for. Feeny demands it.] There will probably be others when the time gets closer and there are others already confirmed, but these are my fellow Lifehos that I’ve ‘known’ for umm…ever sounds good. That’s what it feels like anyway.

It’s all coming together pretty quickly now that I officially paid for my ticket! We’ve even got hotel arrangements covered and preliminary mastication plans! Of course, our hotel is nothing like the hotels Las Vegas has to offer, but we’re going to watch rock stars, we have no need to party like them in the hotel. Just somewhere to sleep and shower without getting diseases…that’s pretty much the extent of my requirements haha–besides, it’s only half a mile from the venue and that’s perfection! Half a mile is less than what I walk to classes every day–I’m set!

I’m gonna see if Mom and Roger will let me borrow the Garmin again for that weekend just so I definitely won’t have to worry about getting lost. I’d hate to let driving anxiety ruin my weekend. That’d tick me off.

And since this is the “Disarray” tour, here’s Disarray for your enjoyment…and mine. =)

Never gonna give you up

I was watching a video on YouTube one night, and in the video responses, I saw a video entitled “Rick Rolled.”

It was obvious this video had nothing to do with the one I was currently watching, but I was intrigued nonetheless.

What I found was something part of an apparent internet fad I somehow missed out on. Were you guys familiar with this?

“Rick Rolling” is linking a person to a video of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” The trick is disguising the link so that the person doesn’t know that’s where it leads. The ‘rules’ are that you must watch the video in its entirety.

The more interesting version is a website that plays the video. Upon entering the site, your window dances around the screen before settling. If you try to navigate away, you’re greeted with information boxes containing the lyrics line by line. Ctrl+Alt+Del is your best method to get out. You can see it here, but remember, I warned you!

There are also a ton of variations and edits around YouTube if you just search for a minute. Some of them are pretty hilarious.

So am I the only one behind here?

I actually clapped for these guys sitting here at home in my seat. This is great!

“The original members of Straight No Chaser perform their comedic version of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” at the Musical Arts Center, Bloomington, Indiana. December 7th, 1998.”

The Laughing Song

I realized on the drive home tonight that I can now share The Laughing Song with you via this new plugin. Can you listen without grinning?

Oh my name is Ticklish Ruben
from way down in old Vermont
I’ve been tickled by almost everything
I’ve been tickled by a feather,
I’ve been tickled by a wasp,
I’ve been tickled by a yellow bumblebee.
*Commence rhythmic laughing*

From Where You Are

The newest Allstate commercial “Tail Lights” features a song written and performed by Lifehouse lead singer–Jason Wade.

The commercial premieres tonight during Friday Night Lights, but you can watch it here. And the full video for the song is here.

I’m loving it. The lyrics are so simple, and so touching. Needless to say, with losing Pete less than three months ago, it definitely got to me.

The song will be up for download on iTunes November 6th. Until then, if anyone wants it, I can send it to you, or you can find it on lifehouse-media.com

So far away from where you are
These miles have torn us worlds apart
And I miss you, yeah I miss you

So far away from where you are
I’m standing underneath the stars
And I wish you were here

I miss the years that were erased
I miss the way the sunshine would light up your face
I miss all the little things
I never thought that they’d mean everything to me
Yeah I miss you
And I wish you were here

I feel the beating of your heart
I see the shadows of your face
Just know that wherever you are
Yeah, I miss you
And I wish you were here

I miss the years that were erased
I miss the way the sunshine would light up your face
I miss all the little things
I never thought that they’d mean everything to me
Yeah I miss you
And I wish you were here

So far away from where you are
These miles have torn us worlds apart
And I miss you, yeah I miss you
And I wish you were here

Spratt made a dvd for one of his media classes, and one of the segments was on a popular place downtown, where some of the creme of the Valdosta crop play with their bands.

We have a few pretty great little groups here, one in particular though, stands out as a band that could really go somewhere. They’ve actually done a really great job getting themselves out there and are requested all over Georgia already, but they’re missing a few things to really propel them.

Algeka could really offer them some of the exposure they’re missing. Algeka features emerging music videos, in addition to showcasing artists as part of a singing competition.

Visitors can view music videos and purchase the video or just audio files. The artists get 20 percent of the profits.

It’s a really great way to get singer-songwriters heard and really get their material out there. These days, people are really looking for new stuff you can’t just find on the radio. Algeka offers that. What a great way for artists to pull in a little extra beer money too, for those late-night jam sessions?

I like this little bit by Emilio; the guitar work reminds me of something Lifehouse would do, which of course, makes me happy =)

Touring woes

Lifehouse:

11/10/07 - Talleyrand Festival - Jacksonville, FL
11/11/07 - Floyd’s Music Store - Tallahassee, FL

Jacksonville is 2 hours from me, and on a Saturday so I could rest on Sunday, but it’s a festival, so it’ll most likely be a shorter set, and definitely won’t be up to the same standards as the rest of the tour.
Tallahassee is about 2 hours away. It’s on Sunday so I’d have to drive home after the show and have a full day of everything on Monday. It’s a full show though…

Do I do Jacksonville or Tallahassee? Or do I do both? If I do both, do I drive home overnight or get a hotel? Driving back home only adds an extra hour total?

Or maybe they’ll add a Georgia date? But if they add a GA date, it’ll most likely be Atlanta, which is much further away and will probably be in the middle of the week.

Or maybe the guys were on crack when they came up with this system of releasing like 5 tour dates, and then adding one or two every few days. Maybe, just maybe, they need to get back to the nutritional supplements, cleanse their systems, auras, chis, what-the-hell-evers and stop tormenting the Southeast every time they plan a freaking tour! This is nuts!

They’ve been really pushing this tour. They’ve been blogging every night, talking about how excited they are. Teasing us with setlist prospects. Telling us how amazing the show is and how it’s so much bigger than the shows they’ve done in the past! Gahhh!

At the moment, I feel like I wanna do both of these Florida dates. I don’t know why I’m even considering that to be a valid, argumentative idea—of course I want to go to both!

Ideally, I’d like to have a concert buddy and go to Jax, spend the night and then go to Tallahassee. I don’t mind driving home between, but it’d be more of an all around fun weekend if I had someone with me. Alone, all the driving seems like more of a hassle.

Hmm…Ryan may be out of town on my Birthday. Maybe I could convince him to go to one or both with me. Ohh the gears are totally turning…I bet, if nothing else, Ryan could work on Saturday in Jax, get KEN to pay for a hotel Saturday night and I could just stay with him! Then he could either work Sunday, or we could caravan to Tallahassee! Either way, it makes the whole thing a little more interesting, and a little less of a hassle. Gears are totally turning now.

I’m gonna have to wait until I see what’s going on in Georgia before I figure this out. Jax tickets have been on sale forever, since the festival has been planned, but Tallahassee doesn’t go on sale until Friday. Where’s my sanity? ‘Cause it’s certainly not in concert trip planning!

Marie posted this little nugget on her blog and I’m a bit hooked now.

I hope to see more of her….and hope to hear some really good stuff from her, not just the same stuff that’s already on the radio! Check her out on YouTube, or her official site, Esmee Denters : Official Site.

Hurricane

Music 1 Comment »

It’s probably about time I posted this. The title of my blog comes from the song “Hurricane” by Something Corporate (ya know, my Andrew McMahon obsession…Jack’s Mannequin is his baby as well.) So anyway, lyrics behind the cut, I’ve also put up the song for listen as well, since the lyrics don’t read quite as beautifully as they sound when he sings them and pairs them up with the piano. Seriously, at least listen to the breakdown…that piano part is my favorite ever…
