For the most part I’ve got everything straight. About 10 minutes ago I secured my last class in my schedule. I’m relieved and annoyed at the same time. The majority of my classes are on MWF, that’s how I like my schedule. I was scheduled for my first computer class on TR 2-3:15. That way I can be at work by 4, and occasionally I can work 6-1 and then be off after class. I was really happy with that setup. Unfortunately, my computer class is the one I was having so much trouble getting into. I was able to get overrides into all my other classes so my schedule was back to where I originally had it. I found an opening in the class for TR 9:30-10:45 so I had to take it. Trust me, I’ll be checking back often to see if I can switch over to my original time slot, but until then, at least I’ve got the class!
I also picked up my iPod yesterday! It’s even prettier than my old one! All my music is on it, now I’ve just got to pick my first video to put on it! I’ll post pictures later. Right now I need to go eat and buy my books….err…the ones I can afford.
Wow, well, I’m gonna show my age here, but I totally never realized the song “Got My Mind Set on You,” one of my favorite childhood songs, was from George Harrison. Oops! Just one of those things where you just never even think about it, so when the thought finally does occur to you, it’s like, “Duh!” Yeah, anyway…
I’m on VH1.com watching 2007 World Series of Pop Culture on VSPOT and it’s pretty much amazing! It’s basically a few lines of lyrics from a song and they have to get the name of the song, or maybe the artist. They’ve got different categories as well, and one of them was Rump Shakers and wow…you’ve basically got this host that they’ve made up to look like, straight out of Leave it to Beaver or something, and he’s reading out lines from things like Baby Got Back like he’s reading an owners manual or something. It’s hilarious!
They had a really great category of Weird Al songs and the contestants had to guess the name of the song it was a parody of! So far, I’d be dominating this mess. For real. Why can’t I get on an awesome game show? Haha, and as I’m typing this, I’m watching a clip of someone trying to guess “You Get What You Give,” from New Radicals, who I just posted about! Oh! And for most of these, they play the music video after the game show clip.
Which brings me to my final thought on this show. I still love The Police. Sting still makes me squee with delight when he sings and looks at the camera with that piercing gaze.
Ripper would be my iPod. Cleverly named after Giles’ nickname (from Buffy the Vampire slayer…my cat’s name also comes from there ) and ‘ripping’ songs off cds to put on my iPod.
Anyhow, I’ve had Ripper since 2005. Last year, a problem developed–it’d be in the middle of playing a song; the song would suddenly stop, and the screen would say “no card inserted.” When I back out to the menu, it was in photo import! Guess what–my iPod is not a photo iPod; it’s not even color!
Well, it got to where it was happening quite often, and generally when it’d start happening, it’d happen frequently–every few songs. I couldn’t figure out what the deal was as it was never the same situation (after so many songs, or certain songs, etc) and it started skipping over songs as if the files were missing.
I bought the Best Buy warranty when I got my iPod so I decided to take it in. I may have this out of order, but when it was returned, it had a new processor, but I think this was the time it came back to me as an iBrick–meaning it wouldn’t do anything. Well, I take that back, I think it worked for a few days before I got the dreaded sad iPod screen.
My heart seriously sank. When you get this screen, it means the end. There are two ‘fixes’ you can attempt, but if neither works, enjoy your iBrick! Thank God for that warranty, eh? So back it went since it was obviously not fixed properly, and this time it came back with a new harddrive, but when I got it home, it wouldn’t sync with iTunes. My computer recognized there was a device, but iTunes didn’t recognize its existence. Well, that doesn’t do me any good, so off again!
Finally my Ripper came back to me with another new harddrive and a new LCD screen–I’m guessing they damaged my old one during the repairs ’cause it was perfectly fine. Overall, the ‘invoices’ for the repairs showed parts that, if I had paid for them all, would’ve totaled more than I paid for the iPod in the first place.
It’s now been less than a year since I took it in. I believe this all started in September last year. A few months back it started doing the photo import deal again, and one day when I turned it on I got the image of a folder with and exclamation point, telling me to go to apple.com/support. Luckily, a soft reset cleared that, but the photo import thing has become a daily annoyance. It always seems to do it when I find a song I really wanna listen to…
My Best Buy warranty expires in January, so I decided to go ahead and take it in, as there’s obviously a problem. The thing is, being my 4th time sending it off, supposedly there’s a good chance I’ll be getting a brand new iPod. Of course, it all depends on the technicalities, and they may not deem this to be truly the 4th time since the second two times the iPod hadn’t been properly fixed in the first place, but I really hope they send me a new one. I can’t afford to buy a new iPod this time next year when this one starts having the same problem all over again, ya know? And I certainly can’t do without my iPod. I know that’s really materialistic, but I listen to SO much music…I don’t even own half my original cd collection anymore! I’ve given a lot of cds away because I’ve got them ripped and on my iPod…or I’ve bought them online!
It’d also be really nice, considering I’d be getting an upgrade.
This is my iPod. It’s the 20gb, U2 Special Edition. I love black and red, which is why I got it. I’m honestly not a huge U2 fan, I just really didn’t want a white iPod, and at the time, you didn’t have all these iPod covers and such. See, they stopped making these, but they have a newer one. It’s a 30gb color, video/photo U2 Special Edition, and if they send me a new iPod, supposedly that’s what I’ll be receiving, as they no longer carry the old ones. Now, I’m not dying for an upgrade. I wouldn’t really use the video or photo aspect very much, but I certainly won’t deny a 10gb upgrade would be really nice. I’m pushing the max on my 20 gigs as it is! I wouldn’t mind being able to throw a movie or two on there for long breaks between classes either. It certainly wouldn’t hurt my feelings!
So here’s hoping I have a new iPod in the coming days!!
How to make a successful band:
1) Don’t promote their new album in any way. Don’t even release a music video beforehand. In fact, make sure no one, even the die hard fans really know for sure when it’s coming out…
2) Change their perfectly great image to one that’s completely cliche and doesn’t catch the eye at all.
3) When you DO release the cd, make sure the artwork is completely bizarre. It helps if the band doesn’t even truly know what the point/connection is.
4) Do risky things with which songs you actually put on the album. It doesn’t matter if you choose the best lineup ’cause certainly that will just motivate all the casual listeners to go out and buy copies everywhere so they can get all the different songs that should’ve been on the album in the first place.
5) Create a ‘fan club’ with higher pricing than even the artist they’re fucking OPENING FOR on tour and with that, get started on taking away all the things the die hard fans (who have kept the band above water for so long) stick around for.
Yeah, so Geffen made a ‘fan club’ that you can join for $40 for exclusive online chats, pre-sales, front row seats, exclusive meet and greets, and all sorts of other extras. If the pre-sales are supposed to be worth paying $40 a year, it’s probably safe to assume ticket prices are about to double in the Lifehouse world. I have a feeling meeting the guys by the bus to stand around and talk after shows is going to soon become non-existent with the introduction of the meet and greets.
It’s hard to think about because Lifehouse isn’t really marked by following through on ‘extras’ but at the same time, Geffen has changed a lot. How am I supposed to convince people they’re worth listening to when they pick up the album and see some ridiculous album artwork and pictures of the band looking like every other popular band right now….?
I don’t want Lifehouse and Geffen to be friends anymore. I know they still have some say in things, but this is not Lifehouse. This is what Geffen is pushing Lifehouse to be and I hate it.
Lifehouse–Who We Are was released today!! Have you bought it yet? No? Why? We’re not friends anymore. Seriously, go out and support my favorite band if you love me! And if you can’t find it in your heart to go out and buy it, just open up iTunes and get it there! Support my loves!
Seriously, this is an awesome album, even all the bonus songs for different stores are amazing. My only complaint is Storm, which, for the casual fan will still sound like an amazing song, but for me, well, let’s just say I need to gripe some now.
Gosh, where to begin. Alright, the thing is, it kept being said that Storm was included because it fit with the rest of the album so well. I just couldn’t disagree more. Again, to the casual fan, it may seem to, but speaking as someone who’s been there since the beginning, it doesn’t have the same feel as the newer stuff. It’s not the same lyric style either.
Let’s add to this that awkward a capella intro. They kept talking about how the song had been re-worked to fit the album…I dunno, I think that intro totally ruined it for me. There’s really just not enough music to the song at all. It’s like Jason’s vocals with some light noise in the background. I think there are definitely things they could’ve done with the music to at least make the music/feel of the song fit the rest of the album, but outside of that, I much prefer the original. This new version just doesn’t have that ethereal feeling the original has. The original fully pulls me into its core and I’m totally immersed in the song, but this new version just does nothing for me.
Of course, I’m also a little biased because Storm is special to me. I heard Storm before No Name Face was even out here, well before I even heard Hanging By A Moment so it sucks to see a song like that changed in a way that just really doesn’t seem to be for the better.
Maybe I could accept this, IF we hadn’t gotten all these great bonus songs. I can’t get over Signs of Life and what a great song that would’ve been for the album’s ending. It’s so calm, and beautiful and at 5:18 it would seem that would’ve been the natural choice to end the album. I love how it has this great ending where the tempo changes, but still really fits the song. To me, the song screams “The End.” Then the fade out the end just completes it. I could so totally see curtains closing to this and hi, that’s totally the album art theme, so what gives? Why couldn’t we have had Storm as a bonus song and Signs of Life as the album finale? *sigh* Oh well; I adore the album, regardless.
*Sigh* New dates are being added for The Police. Pre-sale starts today for an Atlanta date in November. The absolute cheapest tickets are $52 though and that’s before Ticketmaster ‘convenience’ fees. God I hate them…I was hoping it would be a little while longer before Atlanta tickets went up (Ben tipped me off that they would be back in Atlanta later) I really want to go, but I just can’t afford that right now. Darn James’ wedding! If the trip to Oklahoma wasn’t gonna be so expensive, I bet I could get my mom to get us some tickets for my Birthday. Darn weddings…
Well, before yesterday, Koen had decided this was our track list since Geffen didn’t want to show any sign of the actual one:
Lifehouse - Who We Are (Geffen)
1. Left In The Dark
2. Mysterious
3. Behind Closed Doors
4. Conspiracy Theory
5. The Story of the Cricket & the Missing Tracklisting
6. The Yellow Teint
7. ProNOtion
8. The Album In The Making
9. No One Has Heard
10. Hidden
11. Where Are We?
12. The Damage of the Music Industry
Which I thought was quite fitting. But now, as you all know, we’ve heard the new album So here it is, complete with my short thoughts.
Who We Are
1. Disarray — rockin’ from the very beginning, this will definitely be one to do some serious rocking out toward the end during concerts.
2. First Time — Great summer song. I think they picked a good single.
3. Whatever It Takes — I really love the chorus here, it fits right in with some of my favorite songs.
4. Who We Are — Definitely a favorite, in lyrics and overall sound. This one is meant to be sung at the top of your lungs, I believe. I find myself anticipating the absolutely rockin’ ending, Jason sounds almost desperate; gives me chills.
5. Broken — What to say about Broken? Already been in love with it because of Meesh’s concert video; we were all concerned though as we didn’t know what the studio recording was going to sound like. I’m not disappointed at all; def can’t wait to hear it live though!
6. The Joke — Holy cow this one blows me away. It feels totally new from Lifehouse. It has such a sad background (read here about the suicide) but it’s so amazing, and upbeat!
7. Easier To Be — This one is still growing on me so I don’t really have any comments at this time…
8. Make Me Over — I actually like this one a lot. It doesn’t jump out at you, but it’s a gem. I love the lyrics.
9. Mesmerized — I like the tone of this one. I really like how it all flows.I think they’d have done better to spread out these softer songs though.
10. Bridges — This one totally brings me back to the Lifehouse vibe.
11. Learn You Inside Out — Jasons voice in the opening–OMG! It’s so great! I love this song! It’s so sweet!!
12. Storm — Well, I was dreading having this on the album…I’m probably biased against it, but I know I don’t like the a capella beginning for sure. The rest of it sounds fine, and maybe if that awkward beginning wasn’t there, it would flow well with the rest of the album, but with the a capella beginning, I think I’ll stick with the original.
Man, I was all prepared today to write about my love for Lifehouse, the album release next week, and bitch about Geffen’s lack of promotion…but yeah, VH1 just put up the listening party which is basically the whole album (minus the last track, Storm, though I’m sure that’ll be fixed later) and it has little voice overs from the guys so people won’t just steal the songs lol but omg…I never listen to leaks. I always try to limit myself to what I hear before the album hits, but I was under the impression that these were just clips, but they’re really not but of course now I can’t stop listening. No joke, I’m almost in tears now over how amazing this sounds. ‘Broken’ just got to me. I’ve got chills for real. Geffen better pimp the hell out of this album because it’s SO amazing. This album could easily be huge.
Catie, I apologize now, as you’ll be forced to listen this weekend, complete with band voice overs but it’s okay, ’cause you’ll love it or I’ll eat your elbows!
So Lifehouse is touring with GooGooDolls, and I’ve been struggling with the decision to go. In the beginning, there were two show possibilities–Atlanta, and Tampa. Atlanta was a given because I always go to Atl for concerts and that’s where everyone else would be. Tampa was just doable and meant to be a possibility if I should decide to see two shows. Well, as time draws closer, it turns out my usuals won’t be in Atl and tickets are ridiculous. (Not really but much more expensive than we were expecting.) Top that off with seats that just aren’t really acceptable and the fact that I’d have to get up early to drive 4 hours there before the show and then 4 hours home afterward because I can’t afford to stay–and yeah, it was looking grim. Unlike a lot of other LHFans, I actually really want to see Goo Goo Dolls as well. I’ve loved them since I was young–and I tried two or three times last year to see them live, but I was having trouble deciding if it was gonna be worth the money and hassle to go see the show alone….
So I hopped on ticketmaster to see what the ticket situation was looking like to try and get this decided before all hope was lost for finding decent seats…Duh! Tampa! Tampa is closer and it’s a much straighter drive the Tampa venue than it is to the Atl venue. So I check it out, and luckily, I was able to get a much better seat than what I would have in Atl for all of $3 more. So I begrudgingly give ticketmaster my money (since a $50 ticket cost me $68…) and now I’m going So Saturday, August 4–don’t even expect to hear from me unless I’m giving you a concert call ’cause I will be in LH/GGD heaven!
I’m excited to hear what songs I can expect to hear out of Lifehouse. Since they’re opening, it should be pretty consistent throughout. I just hope I get to hear “Broken” live. I’m really excited about that one and I dunno if I can wait until Fall when they headline.
I’m really, really excited to finally be seeing GGD live. I’m particularly thrilled to finally hear “Iris” and “Name” live. I’ll have to call my mom during “Name.” I’ll have to look some stuff up, but I’m fairly sure that was one of the first GGD songs I ever heard that I really liked and it was definitely because of Mom. I also want to look for some live versions of Iris to download. I want an idea of what I’m in for. I really hope it lives up to my expectations. I adore that song.
Jack’s Mannequin covered John Lennon’s “God” for Amnesty International’s “Instant Karma: The Campaign to Support Darfur,” a mix CD with covers of John Lennon songs.
Not really my favorite Lennon song, but it definitely showcases Andrew’s vocals amazingly; and I think it’s quite awesome they’ve got Mick Fleetwood on drums.
