Checkin’ Out

Opinions 1 Comment »

It won’t be much longer until my free checking runs out with my current bank. At that point, I’m almost positive I’ll be moving to another bank. I always have too many problems with them as is.

I just don’t think you should have to pay for a checking account. We’ve all seen the WaMu commercials for free checking so they’re one of my top choices to move to. I have no idea how much longer I’ll be living paycheck to paycheck, and no matter how small a fee someone wants to charge for my banking, it’s more than I can afford to waste.

I’m really excited too, to see that they give you an overdraft fee refund once a year! With my current bank you have one. Period. Never again–and trust me, they’ll do anything they can to keep to that. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve incurred fees that legitimately should’ve been dropped.

I’m gonna keep looking into them. I see that with a free account, you get the Gold Mastercard Debit, but with the Platinum checking account you get a Platinum Debit MasterCard with higher spending limits…I’m gonna have to check into what kind of ’spending limits’ they put on regular debit cards. I’m sure it has something to do with using it as credit though, or one of the security features on the card. I see people a lot of time come in and try to spend $6,000 on their debit card and can’t because their bank has a default spending limit to keep someone from emptying out your account. I bet it has something to do with that.

Angel of Music

phantom.jpg One thing Pete and I could always talk about was Phantom of the Opera. Our Gifted class read it back in elementary school and we’ve both adored it since. We even went to see the movie together when it opened.

I always told Pete if I became a millionaire, I’d sponsor a production of Phantom and he’d be my Erik/Phantom.

I’ve decided to get a memorial tattoo for Pete. I’m getting the Phantom mask, but I can’t decide on the text. I’m strongly considering, “Angel of Music,” but I want to consider other lines from the production. It’s going to be on my ankle, so it needs to be fairly brief. Any of you familiar with Phantom have any ideas?

…unless I get this 2CD Police set Universal Music Group is releasing! 100 lucky posties will find themselves with an amazing addition to their music collection; here’s hoping I’m one of them!

It shouldn’t be new to anyone who knows me to hear of my obsession with Sting. Without a doubt he’s my absolute favorite lyricist of all time. Let’s not forget what a freakishly interesting life he’s lead. Oh, you don’t know anything about that, do you? Guess you need to pick up his memoirs! Broken Music was amazing. I couldn’t put it down. It’s one of the few books I’ve read twice. When I was only a year old, one of my favorite songs, I Burn For You was released. Really though, you don’t get much more sensual than that.

When I was in seventh grade, somebody was jaw-jacking about Puff Daddy and someone laughed at him and told him he didn’t even write any original songs, all he ever did was cover other songs. He rebutted (or tried to) that ‘I’ll be missin’ you’ was a Diddy original–well, that’s where I came in. He didn’t even have the sentence completed before I stood up and said, “Ohhhh hold on just a minute! That’s NOT his song, that’s a POLICE song that was written and popular before he was even out of freakin High School!” I got an extra 100 in class that day for that, and another one when my teacher tried to challenge me on what the song was about. He never thought I’d know it was a stalker song!

Similarly, on my first day in class last fall, I had on a Police shirt and my teacher stopped me on the way out to challenge me to name someone in the band other than Sting, “Andy Summers, Stewart Copeland, and Sting’s real name is Gordon Sumner, any other questions?” That was fun. He stumbled over whatever he said after that…

I was elated when I found out The Police were doing a big tour, and lamented when I realized I wouldn’t be able to see them. So that only leaves me with my music. Now that this new police cd is being released, I have to have it. This is an amazing collection! Just look!

Disc: 1
1. Fallout
2. Can’t Stand Losing You
3. Next to You
4. Roxanne
5. Truth Hits Everybody
6. Hole in My Life
7. So Lonely
8. Message in a Bottle
9. Reggatta de Blanc
10. Bring on the Night
11. Walking on the Moon
12. Don’t Stand So Close to Me
13. Driven to Tears
14. Canary in a Coalmine

Disc: 2
1. Do Do Do de da da Da
2. Voices Inside My Head
3. Invisible Sun
4. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
5. Spirits in the Material World
6. Demolition Man
7. Every Breath You Take
8. Synchronicity I
9. Wrapped Around Your Finger
10. Walking in Your Footsteps
11. Synchronicity II
12. King of Pain
13. Murder by Numbers
14. Tea in the Sahara

AND this police cd comes with a vintage 1979 concert poster. I’m practically drooling over the thing. I just started putting up my posters here in the apartment and got really upset when I found my Police poster was missing! I don’t know where it could be!

I have to throw this out there too, as it’s definitely counted in one of my proudest moments. My ex prided himself on being more into Sting and The Police than me. He had a fuller collection, and was way more knowledgeable about it all. One evening driving home from work, Dire Straits “Money for Nothing” came on the radio, and OMG, I recognized Sting’s voice doing the background vocals. I said something to Ben and he said he could see where I would think that, but it wasn’t him. Guess who was wrong! Finally, I knew something he didn’t! I’d recognize that man’s voice anywhere.

I’m getting a little unhappy again, thinking about missing this tour, every time I hit up ticketmaster for my summer concert plans, I click to check for tickets I can afford. Of course nothing’s changed, but hopefully PPP will ease the pain a little by sending me a copy of the police cd, if not, I’ll just go buy my own copy on June 5th when it officially releases! My iPod is digitally drooling over this little gem already!! I’ll send an S.O.S to the world….it’ll say, “Give me The Police, or give me squash!!” (Squash makes me gag….)

Prettify Your Windows

Opinions No Comments »

I’m such a sucker for decorative things. I have to be really careful because I have such an eclectic taste that I often find myself buying things that don’t match anything I already have. Back in the house I had some amazing blinds just like these:

Only, a tad lighter. Ryan won’t let me change out all the blinds we have here in the apartment, but you can bet as soon as we’re out of here, I’m getting lots of pretty window dressings! I’m quite partial to Roman blinds myself. They just look very “now” and I love that. A lot of blinds look awkward when they’re rolled up, but Roman blinds look like nice little valences hanging at the top of your window! I’m truly in love with wooden Roman blinds, bamboo are my absolute favorites. I searched high and low to get a good deal on the last ones I got because it’s just so hard to find quality ones for a decent price. And having a cat, and living in pollen capital, it’s crucial to have something that can be cleaned so easily.

It’s probably just me, but I find it sort of amusing that I opened a support ticket on PPP late last night and when I checked at lunch today it was ‘assigned’ and ‘in progress.’ It’s still in progress…I stumped ‘em. At least I know I asked a good question…

Bobble Heads!!

Opinions 3 Comments »

Someone on the PPP forums just said this in regards to getting the “Rejected” message in your inbox:

I wish I had a Ted bobble head doll that I could smack when I get a reject message. It’s quite demoralizing.

I’m all over this. Isn’t Ted the PPP staffer who has a ridiculous love for bobble heads? They seriously need to look into making these and get them in the PPP store a.s.a.p! I think they’d sell out. One, they’d just be great, and two, can you imagine having it on your desk and just thumping his head every time you get annoyed with PPP? “Bad Ted!” Omg I want one immediately. Seriously.

FYI, this is not a sponsored post.

HDTV Tuesday

Opinions 5 Comments »

So April’s over, and with it gone, so goes 1K Tuesdays, but fret not! Ted decided very quickly that he missed 1K Tuesdays so May has something new in store for posties on Tuesdays. HDTV Tuesday!

Over the course of May, they’re giving away cool HDTV toys, ending with a big screen HDTV on the last HDTV Tuesday!

This time around, the opportunities won’t be blaringly obvious. They aren’t a set payment amount, and don’t necessarily look like special opportunities. You have to open the opportunity and read about it to discover that it’s really one of the special HDTV opps. It’ll contain a special phrase to let you know it is! From what I can tell, just like last month, these opps will also not be segmented! How awesome is that?

Some lucky bugger will be watching reality tv, in high definition! You can’t get much more ‘real’ than that!

I don’t know what kind of lucky streak I’m on here, but it looks like I may have an AppleTV coming my way. Oddly enough, I just recently started looking into them and realized how cool they truly are.

Logging into PayPerPost I saw an opportunity for Plastic Cups. I was suspicious, but thought, hey, even if it is just for plastic cups, I could have fun writing about that! PayPerPost said, “Ha! We gotcha!” But you didn’t fool me PayPerPost! I’ve got your number!

I choose you!

Hm, it appears I have Pokemon on the brain now. How scary….luckily a trip to one of my favorite blogs, Pointless Drivel, should clear out any impure, geeky thoughts I’m having. Fab will set me straight!

Which is exactly why I’ll be voting for him in the blog awards! Voting has begun for the Blogger’s Choice Awards! Aren’t you excited? I haven’t signed up on the site yet, but that’s what I’m heading to do after I go pay rent!

Through PayPerPost I’ve discovered so many new blogs. My “Frequent” bookmark folder is now full of blogs I check on a daily basis. It’ll be really interesting to see how many of my favorites get nominated, or even win, for some of the categories they’ve got going this year. All the bases are covered– Best Geek Blog, Best Humor Blog, Best Photography Blog, even Hottest Mommy Blogger and Most Obnoxious Blogger! Right now I can think of a few nominees for each of those and I can’t wait to see if my picks make it!

Shall we start taking bets, anyone? Feeling lucky? Aye? You’ve got until the end of May to vote and winners will be announce at PostiCon! I wonder if they’ll have a red carpet….Anyhow, get your votes in ’cause I don’t want to hear any whining when your choice for The “Blogitzer” doesn’t win because you didn’t vote! No hanging chads!!!
