so new years was alright. i worked 1-6 and then came home to do laundry. around 11:30 i finally popped open a bottle of wine; ryan came home shortly after that. we all had a shot a little before midnight, then after, we shot off some fireworks. right after we finished, the cops stopped by. heh. i think they were really called for the guys down the street shooting off mortars–they were loud but they stopped by to tell us to keep it down too just in case since they didn’t really know for sure. plenty of wine and the cops were called– successful enough for me.
worked again on monday till 6 and then when i came home we packed quickly and hit the road. atlanta was fairly uneventful. we got ryan’s car fixed which took way less time than we were expecting, but was still expensive as hell considering he had to get a new clutch. yuck. ryan’s mom bought me a really pretty fleur de lis necklace while she was in lousiana and his sister sent me some bath and body works stuff
and i ended up with two godiva drinks and some godiva chocolate pretzles from the trip too. yum to the extreme. i think that’s really about all that happened.
ryan tried to register me for the classes i needed when registration opened back up on thurs but they closed pretty much as soon as they were opened. damn.
now for the rant:
lowe’s has a new “rule.” when we students submit our availability, we have to submit a printed copy of our school schedule. whether or not they approve our availability is supposed to be based on that schedule. i have to call bullshit there. i am a PART TIME employee of lowe’s. to be part time, i have to be available for at least 15 hours a week. period. the end. that’s it. lowe’s is not my career. my life does not revolve around my part time job, nor does it revolve around my class schedule. it’s NONE of their business why i’m not available at a certain time of day. for all they know, i have a crazy relative who can’t take care of themselves; or maybe i have some embarrassing ailment that requires weekly treatments. all they can ask is that i’m available for the minimum amount of hours allowed for part time. that’s it.
now let’s add to that that i have to wait on overrides for my classes, which means it could be up to another two weeks before everything is in the computer to the point that i can actually give them a printout. i went into the h.r. office to get an availability form and melissa said she couldn’t do one until she had my class schedule printout. even though i explained to her what the deal was and that peggy(my boss) already knew the deal….even after pointing out to her that it probably meant six weeks worth of incorrect schedules because peggy would be scheduling me when i wasn’t available…….IDIOTS. really. how stupid can you get? i finally just said, “right, okay then” and walked out. i left peggy a note with my availability and put it in her box. hopefully that’ll at least save her a little trouble when making her schedule. really, those people make me furious sometimes. honestly.

yeah, i’ve noticed a lot lately that most part-time jobs are being real assholes about availability. it totally gets on my nerves that they just assume we college students are about to make a career out of our rinky-dink part-time jobs, and therefore, we should just get used to those rinky-dink jobs being our lives. shitzors.
