If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
So thanks to some extensive searching I found the Muzak station that’s played in Lowe’s and bookmarked it on my phone so I don’t have to wonder about what I’m listening to.
In the last month or so, two new cover songs got added to our rotations….first to be noticed was A.C. Newman’s cover of A-Ha’s Take On Me. I do not approve.
Then there’s Rogue Wave covering the Yeah Yeah Yeahs song, MAPS….
I don’t hate this one as much….but I still don’t approve.
And hearing things like this always makes me wonder who holds the keys to these songs, who was actually the one to give these other artists permission to redo the songs and make them their own?
I just think you don’t mess with greatness unless you can improve it, or at least do something different with it have it be just as good. These are not examples of that…
And in case you can’t remember the originals:
MAPS (and FYI, MAPS= My Angus, please stay)
Take On Me
(And just for fun) Take On Me Literal, Take On Me Family Guy
