Sweet Catastrophe

I shut down my computer Wednesday night so I’d remember to clean out my case before I booted it up Thursday. One of the fans was making a little noise so I figured it was time to clean them anyway. So Thursday I opened it up and took a qtip to all my fans and just carefully cleaned out any dust. I turned it back on and everything in the tower booted up like normal and the noise I’d been hearing was gone so I reached to turn on my monitors and nothing happened…there was no power going to my keyboard, none to my usb hub, speakers, monitors, etc…I freaked out. I just knew I had screwed something up.

So I opened it up again and checked all the connectors and looked around for any obvious problems but I could see nothing wrong. Ryan built the computer so I finally gave in and texted him. He walked me through a few things to try and when nothing worked, I ended up having to just take it to him.

Seeing him was a whole helluvalot harder than I was expecting. Having my computer be screwed up is more than enough to upset me, but dealing with Ryan on top of that was just too damn much.

Turns out my power supply blew a capacitor and something is wrong with my motherboard. Not entirely sure what’s wrong with it, but even trading out the power supply didn’t bring my pc back to life. Ryan said it looks like it may have taken a hit from a power surge….like I was just talking about trying to avoid…. so yeah, dunno what I’m gonna do yet.
