PR Confusion

Web Add comments

Maybe I’m missing something, but I totally don’t understand why people are still under the assumption that the fall in PR was all Google punishing people with paid links.

People are still completely stuck on that idea, even though it keeps being brought up that, “oh well this site that doesn’t have any paid links whatsoever also went down.”

Why can’t we all be under the more logical assumption that Google just did a total revamp of how they determine PR? I mean, after all, it took a ridiculously long time for an update to occur. They were doing something all that time.

And everyone is all frantic about how it’s going to change their income. This isn’t the end of the world guys. It sucks for the moment, but when it all settles, everyone–including advertisers–will acclimate to this new PR.

Again, maybe I’m missing something, but that’s the way I see it.

I’m annoyed with PR falling as well. I fully expected to have a PR 3 on this blog. I know it was a pretty cocky notion, but I just knew I would be. I would’ve been mostly satisfied with even a 2, but here I am with a 1. I had up to 10 data centers showing a 2 when all the shuffling started, but they ended up falling back to a 1. I think I’m still holding out a little hope that it’s not all completely done and I’ll see a movement again–at least to a 2. I just wanted to know what my hard work had earned…

No, I think you’re right on. Google isn’t punishing anyone (if so, why did the Washington Post loose rank too?). They’re just playing with the math.

It’s good to see there are still a few people being logical about it. Forums are overrun with topics pertaining to the evils of Google and how they’re punishing people….and within each one, at least one person brings up a site they’ve found with no paid links that also fell.

Sometime I wish I could be as ignorant and oblivious as some people. It might be a nice vacation.
